A few useful words.
Definitions to keep beside your reading.
- Bit
- A classical information unit with two possible values, usually labeled 0 and 1.
- Qubit
- A quantum system whose state can be a superposition of two basis states.
- Amplitude
- A complex-number coefficient of a quantum state; its squared magnitude gives an outcome probability in the chosen basis.
- Interference
- Combination of amplitudes that changes outcome probabilities through reinforcement or cancellation.
- Entanglement
- A property of a joint quantum state that cannot be represented as a mixture of independent states of its parts.
- Physical qubit
- A hardware system used to represent quantum information.
- Logical qubit
- Quantum information encoded using multiple physical systems and an error-correcting code.
- Classical baseline
- The specified classical method against which a quantum method is compared.
- Quantum annealing
- An approach that evolves a system toward low-energy states of an encoded problem; distinct from a universal gate circuit.
- Bookings
- Orders under a company's stated definition; not interchangeable with recognized revenue.
- Dilution
- A reduction in an existing shareholder's ownership percentage when additional shares are issued.
- Operating cash flow
- Cash generated or used by operating activities over a reporting period.
